Roman Provence

Black and white photographs by Elizabeth Shipp

When I first moved to France in 1999, I was only taking snapshots to help me remember everything I had seen. Over time, though, I started paying more attention to my photography and made the change from 35mm to a medium format camera. A workshop from Andrew Squires helped me concentrate on what it was about Provence that I wanted most to show people.

Medium-format, black-and-white photography fits my left-brained analytic way of working and of looking at the world, but still lets me be creative.

The photos in the exhibit were all taken using film, then the negatives were scanned and the prints were produced from digital files.
